How do Fidget Spinners Work?

At their core, they rely on a central bearing and the principle of angular momentum. When you hold a fidget spinner, your fingers grip the center cap, which stays relatively still. The outer arms rotate around this center because they are mounted on a bearing.

I love fidget spinners because they offer simple, low-effort stimulation that helps your mind settle while your hands stay busy. The smooth and predictable motion can be calming, especially if you tend to think better when there’s a small amount of background activity rather than complete stillness. Starting the spin, watching it slow down, and restarting it can also feel grounding and satisfying, particularly during moments of restlessness or stress.
